Mid-Century Modern Style Aging-in-Place Project

    This single-family detached house for aging in place is located in Columbia. Ohio is designed for early boomers who were born between 1946 and 1955. Most of the baby boomers grown with the mid-century Modern style. As an after-war design style, the main feature of Mid-century modern is clean lines, and repeatedly organized pattern. The primary goal of this design is to provide both sustainable and wheelchair accessible housing elements into the house. The overall house provides two stories living. The first floor offers all basic and main living functions such as kitchen, dining, living, Laundry, Master Suite, and a powder room for guests. The second floor provides two guest bedrooms and one shared bathroom, swimming pool is added for family entertainment. The space of the elevator will be reserved for future use. Mid-century modern style appreciates nature, multiple nature views with large windows will be found in this house. Curved building shape of the house brings easier walking path for both able-bodied and non-able-bodied people to reside in. Large window connects human and nature directly and closely. Encourages appreciation of healthy living. Structured patterns embellish the space and reinforced the mid-century modern style. Neutral color such as black, brown, and white assist with avocado green and honey mustard yellow settle a classic modern feeling and a vivid imagery into the space. Luxuries vinyl material will be applied as sustainable material in the floor. All wood materials are certified by FSC (Forest Stewardship Center). Sustainable material such as bamboo could reduce the harm to our environment.
